Dr. Geoffrey T. Fong (方德智) (Psychology/Global Health Research)
Dr. Geoffrey T. Fong (方德智), Professor at the University of Waterloo, is internationally recognized for his application and development of social, cognitive, and health psychology to improve decision making in everyday life and in developing and evaluating interventions in global health. His pioneering research on evaluating tobacco control policies throughout the world, has garnered international recognition for Dr. Fong in global health and reduction of chronic disease.
Dr. Fong heads a team of 150 researchers across 10 scientific fields in 29 countries, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), recognizing that 80% of tobacco-caused deaths in this century will be in LMICs.
Dr. Fong’s national and global contributions to both the science and policy of preventing disease are innovative, impactful, and significant.
