Educational Background
Dr. Lu received his bachelor’s degree in science in Metallurgy from Chen-Kung University in Taiwan in 1957, his doctoral degree in the same field from University of Minnesota in 1964.
Career Development
After a brief postdoctoral training in the Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Minnesota, Dr. Lu became assistant Professor at the Department of Metallurgy and Material Science, McMaster University in 1965.
Dr. Lu was then promoted to Associate Professor in 1969 and the Stelco Professor of Metallurgy in 1973.
Dr. Lu has been a technical consultant to companies in Canada, USA, Japan, Sweden, Spain, Peru, Brazil and Australia.
Major Contributions
Dr. Lu is the Founder of the McMaster Symposium on Iron and Steel making, an annual international conference which is one of the most important, worldwide technology transfer spot in the field.
Dr. Lu participated in many activities of the Americal Institute of Mining, Matellurgical and Petroleum Engineers, including the editorial committee for Books on Iron making Blast Furnaces, the Commissioner of AIME-ASM Joint Commission on The Metallurgical Transactions, and member of Board of Directors of the Iron and Steel Society.
Dr. Lu has over 80 professional publications and many patents pending in different countries.
Other Honorary
In addition to the Stelco Chain Professorship, Dr. Lu also received the Alcan Award from the Metallurgical Society of Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1983, and the T.L. Joseph Award from Iron and Steel Society of the Americal Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers in 1987.
He has been a Distinguished Member of the latter society since 1985.
