Dr. Jing (Jin) Jiang (姜晶) (Electrical and Computer Engineering)
Dr. Jing (Jin) Jiang, Professor at the Western University, is a world-renowned expert in electrical power systems and control of nuclear power plants, and holds the rank of Distinguished University Professor at Western University. He has made foundational contributions in fault-tolerant control for safety-critical systems; instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants; and integration of renewable energy resources (e.g. solar and wind) in microgrids. He is also one of the longest serving NSERC Industrial Research Chair Professors in Canada, having held this prestigious title continuously since 2003. He is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions and ongoing research.
Dr. Jiang has uncovered the underlying relationships between system reliability and sensor and actuator redundancies, which have fundamentally changed the way fault-tolerant control systems are designed and analyzed. Consequently, these works have laid the foundations for improving the reliability and safety of our nuclear power plants.
Dr. Jiang has trained numerous PhDs, MESc and MEng students and 20 postdoctoral fellows. As an engineering professor, Dr. Jiang has a remarkable publication record, with over 170 papers in leading journals and over 180 conference papers. As of August 29, 2021 Google Scholar indicates that the citations for his academic work have reached 15,520. He has been on the list of the top 2% of the world’s scientists as determined by a Stanford University study for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021).
